Our Funeral Home is a Victorian style residential structure that was built as a Shaker Heights mansion in 1905.   The home is set back from Chagrin Boulevard on the south side of the road, raised upon a small hill overlooking Shaker Town Center.  The only addition that was made to the Home was in 1955, when a chapel was added to the west side of the building in order to accommodate a large public viewing or even a Funeral/Memorial Service.

 Although our chapel is not intended to compete against the reverance and respect of the church, it has been tastefully designed as an option for those who do not wish a formal church setting.  Conveniently located within the funeral home, it provides a dignified setting for small to medium services for family, friends and the community to gather together and pay tribute to the deceased.

 

Visitation Rooms

 

Our visitation rooms have been tailored to ensure comfort and serenity at the time of a loss.  Designated to be flexible in their use, our visitation rooms can accommodate everything from a traditional period of visitation – to a more contemporary memorial visitation – to a private family service.

 

The Foyer

 

As people enter our funeral home, they are greeted by warm, gentle lighting from a high chandelier and original North Union Shaker style woodwork that encompasses the entire room.  A friendly Brown-Forward funeral director will always be there to open the door for you, and offer to take your coat on a chilly or rainy day.  Some people have mentioned that they feel right at home as they enter our facility for the first time.  The home was designed to be inviting and comfortable.

 

 

 

The Organ Room

 

Our “Organ Room” is a gentle sitting area where guests can sign the Register Book, listen to live organ music from a 1945 Hammond Organ or sit comfortably between the Foyer and “Main Room”.  The Organ is a traditional way to practice the funeral rite.  However, Brown-Forward does offer other musical options depending on the request of the families we serve.

 

 

 

 

The Arrangement Rooms

 

 Our Arrangement Rooms are designed to provide the family with comfort and privacy during the arrangement with a friendly and knowledgeable Funeral Director.  Here, you can choose between any number of Caskets or Urns by viewing in depth High Definition images from our 60″ HD/LCD wall mounted computer screen.

 

 

Video Memorial Tribute Stations

 

Brown-Forward’s DVD Memorial Tribute specialist can design a powerful and lasting video presentation of your loved one using photographs belonging to friends and family that goes along with music of your choosing.  These video tributes are then played throughout the funeral home on High Definition Televisions.

 

 

 

 At Brown-Forward Funeral Service, families have many options when it comes to the location for the Funeral or Memorial Service.  Families who belong to a church in the city may choose to have the service in the church. Others may choose to have the service in our chapel.  Throughout our years serving the greater Cleveland area, we have many relationships and options throughout the city to use existing facilities in every quadrant that may be more convenient to the family.
